EMPOWERING SILENT VOICES: A STORY OF INCLUSION AND GROWTH
In a bold move to promote inclusivity in the workforce, Flextronics Technology Sdn. Bhd. launched a transformative initiative: the Professional Certificate in the Wellbeing of Persons with Disabilities (PwD) Employees. Thirty employees who are deaf and mute embarked on a journey not only of learning but also of empowerment at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).
These individuals, often overlooked in traditional professional settings, were given the opportunity to build their skills, boost their confidence, and realize their potential. The program went beyond theory; to bridge the gap between learning and real-world experience, the final phase offers participants a rare opportunity—industrial training in a live campus environment.
With the approval and support of the respective faculty deans (PTJs), these students are integrated into the university ecosystem, participating in the daily operations of administration and management units. Each PTJ hosts three students, ensuring they receive focused guidance and mentorship.
The Division of Industry and Community Network is one of the selected PTJs assigned to serve as supervisors and mentors. The role of the supervisor extends beyond administrative tasks; it is transformational. Instead of merely overseeing tasks, supervisors demonstrate to these silent voices that they, too, belong in spaces of leadership, strategy, and professional excellence.
This initiative is more than just a program; it represents a step toward a more inclusive future—one where potential is recognized beyond speech and capabilities are celebrated beyond hearing.
