At the 2026 Malaysia–Canada Higher Education Partnership Event, USM explored opportunities for collaborative initiatives aimed at strengthening transnational education, research, and community impact.

The objectives of the partnership between USM and Canadian institutions include:

1. Strengthening transnational education and curriculum innovation in priority disciplines.

2. Developing joint research initiatives addressing societal challenges such as sustainability, climate adaptation, and health sciences.

3. Promoting global mobility, leadership, and applied workforce development.

4. Integrating engineering and AI-enabled solutions with sustainable development initiatives.

5. Establishing a regional ecosystem model linking USM, Canadian institutions, local industry, and communities.

In the context of community engagement, the USM Community Network Office (CNO) plays a pivotal role, exemplifying service excellence in supporting the partnership. Working closely with the USM International Office, CNO operationalizes the COMPASSION blueprint through the Transnational Education–Knowledge Transfer Program (TNE-KTP).

This initiative trains academics, students, and community leaders to tackle real-world societal challenges, combining hands-on engagement, co-creation of solutions, and social enterprise principles to translate knowledge into tangible, sustainable community impact.

By adopting this approach, USM is strategically positioned as a leading ASEAN hub for sustainability, technology innovation, and community-centered higher education, bridging knowledge, practice, and cross-border collaboration to achieve lasting societal change.
