FROM LIVING LABS TO LASTING IMPACT: STRENGTHENING PARTNERSHIPS FOR COMMUNITY-BASED SUSTAINABILITY

news 2

Community Network Office (BJIM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), had the privilege of visiting the UPM–Hiroshima University Living Lab as part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen knowledge exchange and explore innovative, community-based sustainability solutions.

The visit offered valuable insights into how the Living Lab model supports smallholder communities through sustainable oil palm practices, biodiversity conservation, and applied research. More importantly, it demonstrated how collaborative platforms can translate scientific knowledge into practical solutions that improve livelihoods while protecting the environment.

What stood out most was the clear connection between research, community capacity building, and real-world impact. This reinforces a key lesson in community engagement: success is not measured only by improvements achieved, but by the value created and sustained by the community over time.

We look forward to exploring future collaborations that advance low-carbon development, strengthen smallholder resilience, and scale community-driven innovation through strong institutional partnerships.
Collaboration is the bridge between knowledge and empowerment.
